‘American Made’ Review: Tom Cruise Flies Between Comedy and Tension, Missing Both

Tom Cruise trashes his flashing-teeth hero image to play, if not a bad guy, then certainly a naughty one in the jaunty drug-running caper “American Made.”

Re-teaming with his “Edge of Tomorrow” (a.k.a. “Live Die Repeat”) director Doug Liman, Cruise plays Barry Seal, a real-life character who ran drugs, guns and money between Central America and Arkansas in the late 1970s and early ’80s, while also working for the CIA.

Seal, a family man who started out as a pilot for TWA, eventually became embroiled in what blew up into the Iran-Contra scandal, as well as being a trusted delivery boy for the Medellin cocaine cartel lead

‘Mission: Impossible 6’ to Halt Production After Tom Cruise Breaks Ankle

UPDATE 8/16 at 2:10pm ET: Paramount has provided a statement to Just Jared: “During production on the latest Mission: Impossible film, Tom Cruise broke his ankle while performing a stunt. Production will go on hiatus while Tom makes a full recovery, and the film remains on schedule to open July 27, 2018. Tom wants to thank you all for your concern and support and can’t wait to share the film with everyone next summer.”
Tom Cruise was injured on the set of Mission: Impossible 6 and while the extent of his injuries are unknown, production is reportedly going to be shut down.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Tom Cruise broke his ankle while performing a stunt on the set of the upcoming "Mission: Impossible 6," causing production on the film to go on hiatus while the actor recovers, Paramount Pictures said in a statement on Wednesday.

Paula Patton stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday (August 14) and dished all about feeling the “competitive spirit” while working alongside Tom Cruise on 2011′s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.
“I don’t know if it was pressure but it was like a competitive spirit. You wanted to do it too,” the 41-year-old actress told Jimmy. “You’re inspired by him but you don’t have to, no, certainly I wanted to.”

While the project has been in active development at the studio for some time, Cruise himself let the cat out of the bag in May on the press tour for Universal’s “The Mummy.”

Speculation that the project was on — finally — picked up late last year after Val Kilmer, who played Cruise’s rival Iceman in the original film, said on Facebook that he’d been offered a role in a sequel.
